The high pressure pump extracts all the aromas and develops a smooth crema. The thermobloc heats water to between 187 degrees and 196 degrees during extraction and empties the remaining water after each use so that the water is fresh for each preparation. It uses a simple system which perforates the capsule and soaks all the ground coffee to optimally filter the coffee. The functional handle system allows for easy coffee preparation. Automatic ejection of used capsule makes cleanup a snap. The water container is removable for easy filling.

Since I have been pulling my own espresso shots with a semiautomatic machine and selecting my own coffees the Nespresso never appeared to me as a "serious" espresso machine. After speaking to a few people I know and surprisingly finding out that they are using Nespresso machines I had to give it a whirl. I didn't know about Nespresso's reputation since the 1970's and how many people hold this espresso maker in such high regard.
After purchasing the Essenza C101 and savoring my first shot, I have been immensly pleased. The espresso is top notch, first class all the way. Thermoblock heater with perfect temperature regulation, 19 bar pump driven and a the ability to manually regulate how long to pull the shots adds up to a great combination. The espresso capsules are delicious and the crema is velvety smooth. The 16 capsule sampler it comes with gives you the chance to taste a variety of coffees. I also ordered 50 capsules with my machine (you must purchase from Nespresso's Club) based on the descriptions I read and they were right on the money. Citrus, Floral, Cereal, Chocolaty, Peppery, whatever descriptions they gave were very accurate. The convenience and easy cleanup is a bonus, but for me not the main selling point. It's all about the taste and Nespresso delivers in a big way. Highly recommended for espresso lovers.
