we had the model prior to this one and pretty much did great with it. unfortunately, the straps were coming loose even though they were locked, so we contacted first years and they sent us this model as a replacement (completely for free, and they were very easy to deal with...the only reason why this product got more than one star). the only positive to this seat compared to the previous model is that you can use it in any car without having a base. this is not an easy task however, as listed in a previous review. the yellow latches are ridiculously difficult to undo, to the point that it makes you think you're pulling on the wrong thing to unlatch it.<br/><br/>other than being able to use this car seat without a base, there are not many redeeming qualities. although it looks pretty, it is very bulky. it is definitely a larger car seat than the previous model and i sometimes have difficulty easily maneuvering it into my car - and i have a crossover suv. every time i lift the car seat to put it in my car with my baby already in it, i feel like i'm about to break my back...just have to remember to lift with my legs i guess. my son is 8 months old, i've had this car seat since he was 6 months old, and there was a very noticeable difference in the weight of this carseat compared to my previous one.<br/><br/>in the end, would i purchase this myself? absolutely not.
