  Henckels is acknowledged as one of the world's finest cutlery manufacturers of high-end knives. Henckels developed its International line, featuring knives that still perform admirably in the kitchen, for a more moderate price. This seven-piece Classic set is manufactured using high-carbon stainless steel, a premium material, but one that's of slightly lesser quality than the company's other cutlery lines. The knives are well balanced in the hand, with narrow yet still heavy handles for thorough slicing. The set includes a 4-inch paring knife, a 5-inch serrated utility knife, a 7-inch hollow-edge santoku, and an 8-inch chef's knife. A 9-inch sharpening steel keeps their edges in order, and a pair of kitchen shears to snip herbs, flowers, or string is also included. Everything stores neatly in an attractive natural hardwood block. The variety of knives gives you an arsenal to handle virtually any kitchen task, from slicing vegetables and meat to mincing garlic to dividing a long loaf of French bread. Durable and attractive, the knives feature Henckels' trademark black polypropylene handles, each fastened by three rivets to the fully visible tang. While the knives are dishwasher-safe, hand washing is recommended. I love these knives. They are heavier than the Wusthof Grand Prix line that I looked at, and for not being made in Germany, they are remarkably well-made. They are fully forged and razor sharp. I compared these side by side to several sets of Henckels and Wusthof knives, particularily the Henckels Pro S made in Solingen, and I could not tell a major difference.They might not be top notch, but they are certainly nice enough for anything I'll ever need them for.
